What decides the cost of a bathroom remodel in New Jersey
The range moves for the same reasons a quote does. The biggest one is how much of the room is coming out. Re-tiling a tub surround in the same layout is a few days of work; taking a tub out and building a walk-in shower means new framing, a sloped pan, a full membrane and often a plumber for the drain and valve. A full bathroom to the studs adds the floor, the toilet and vanity coming out and going back, and paint-ready walls.
Size matters less than people expect, and tile matters more. A small hall bath and a primary bath differ by a day or two of setting. Large-format porcelain needs a flatter wall and a levelling system; mosaic and handmade tile take longer per square foot; natural stone wants a slower blade and sealing. Moving a drain, a valve or a toilet brings in a licensed plumber and sometimes a permit. And there is what I find behind the old tile — damp framing, a soft subfloor — which I photograph and price with you before I go on, never after.
What the range includes
Labor and installation: demolition, substrate, waterproofing, tile, grout and silicone, and setting the fixtures you buy. It does not include the tile itself, plumbing fixtures, glass, painting, permits or a dumpster. The calculator gives you a material budget per square foot alongside the range, so you can add the two together. The visit, which is free, turns the range into a fixed written price with every line spelled out.
